Grégory Pons has been an expert in photovoltaics and energy storage for more than 25 years, and is CEO of AVEIL and LIMELO.
He started at 17, installing off-grid solar panels on a mountain hut in the Alps. Since then, he has contributed to more than 600 MWp of solar power plants in France, nearly 5% of the national market, working at BP and LUXEL and then in his own companies. Today, he campaigns for decentralised, local and sovereign energy, and is betting on collective self-consumption.
In this interview
- From an Alpine mountain hut to 600 MWp: 25 years in photovoltaics
- How a ground-mounted solar power plant is built
- Regulations, IEC standards, recycling and decommissioning (APER law)
- Collective self-consumption: produce here, consume there, peer to peer
- LIMELO: distributing local energy without the administrative complexity
- Energy and blockchain: sovereignty and the tokenisation of a solar power plant
- Solar and nuclear: competition or complementarity in the French energy mix?
- AI and smart grids serving the electricity network
- His advice for future engineers, and the failure that taught him to put people back at the heart of things
